London remains the world’s leading hub for higher education
The new QS World University Rankings 2018 indicate that London remains home to more top universities than any city in the world, with four London universities in the top 40. In total, London has 17 universities represented in the rankings.
University College London has retained its 7th place, while Imperial College London rose one place to 8th. King’s College London is in 23rd place and the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) has risen to 35th place. Goldsmiths, University of London achieved the most significant improvement amongst the London universities, rising 30 places to 397th.
London is also shown to be one of the world’s most international student cities by this year’s rankings. The QS’s International Student Ratio metric measures the extent to which universities across the world have opened their doors to international students. All 17 of London’s universities achieve one of the world’s top 100 scores for this metric.
Commenting on the LSE’s rise in the QS World University Rankings 2018, LSE Interim Director Professor Julia Black said:
“LSE’s rise in this year’s rankings is a richly-deserved credit to our community of staff, students and alumni. It is particularly pleasing to be commended for our international outlook. While deeply rooted in London, we are proud to be a globally-facing and diverse institution. Wherever you come from in the world, you will find LSE welcoming and stimulating.”
Lalage Clay, Head of Education at London & Partners, said: “The QS World University Rankings show that London continues to be the education capital of the world.
