Many international students spend the Christmas holidays in London. And after a busy start to the term with lectures and assignments, it is often the first real opportunity students have to explore the city at length.
There are beautiful Christmas lights throughout the city and numerous events and seasonal activities are available to encourage Londoners and visitors to wrap up warm and explore. The Christmas lights on Oxford Street and Regent Street are a special sight each year, and you will find many more festive lights throughout the city. Wrap up warm, get your skates on and show off your ice skating skills to all your friends at one of London’s many ice rinks. There are some fantastic locations to choose from with ice rinks located in iconic areas such as Somerset House, the Natural History Museum and the Tower of London.
Experience the Christmas atmosphere at London’s Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park. This event includes a host of Christmas-themed fun and activities, including shows, an observation wheel and a huge Christmas market. If you’re a thrill-seeker, there are plenty of rides for you to try out.
The world-famous Christmas tree at Trafalgar square (an annual gift from Norway since 1947), provides the backdrop for a special recital of classics from the Christmas carol book. Join in the singing or simply observe and enjoy the festive atmosphere.
On New Year’s Eve, London comes alive with celebrations, fireworks and parties in every corner of the capital. London’s spectacular New Year’s Eve fireworks display at the London Eye is famous around the world.
