There will be over 300 crowd-sourced summits, conferences, expos, gala dinners and parties, showcasing the best of tech and driving change across London.
London universities showcase their latest tech
A number of universities get involved in London Tech Week by hosting events, workshops and networking opportunities. This year, students from Imperial College London, King’s College London and Middlesex University were proud to showcase some of their latest inventions at the launch event of London Tech Week.
Mitt Prosthesis, founded by two Imperial College London students, was one of the projects on display. Mitt’s goal is to build and provide comfortable, functional and affordable prosthetic upper limbs. Currently, artificial limbs are expensive and require laborious and long procedures to be fitted, which leaves many people with limb loss without any access to prostheses. Mitt has already scooped a number of innovation prizes and awards, enabling the team to take forward their idea and improve the lives of people with limb loss.
There were also be two projects on display from Middlesex University, the ‘Sandbox’ and the ‘Collaborative Robot’. The Augmented Reality Sandbox is an installation that uses a 3D scanner, a powerful computer and a short throw projector to enable users to shape sand into a vivid, dynamic, contoured relief map. It encourages playful, social exploration of world-making and has been used to teach aspects of hydrology and geomorphology.
Sawyer, the collaborative robot, demonstrates effective collaborations between robot and human operators, typically used in assembly tasks. Advances in robot technologies now allow these machines to sense their environments and adapt without the need for them to be kept inside safety cages. The programming technology has also developed to the extent that these highly specialised robots can now be more easily programmed on demand, using graphical user interface.
Finally, students from King’s College London have developed Veed, an automated video editing & hosting platform. Companies like Asos make 16,000 product videos a month, manually edited by a team of 8 video editors. Veed uses AI to automatically edit videos, cutting down the time from 20 minutes to just a few seconds, saving companies thousands of hours and pounds.
Opportunities for London students

There are a number of interesting events that could be useful for students to attend, such as workshops on how to set up a business in the UK, how to protect your intellectual property and other events which address technologies in specific industries.
