Third annual London Venture Crawl celebrates student entrepreneurship

More than 300 students from 13 London universities took part in the third edition of the annual London Venture Crawl on Wednesday 20th March, travelling on iconic red buses across London’s top innovation hubs.

The event, which in three years has grown from a small-scale initiative to a collaborative project between London universities, allows participants to discover the capital’s key innovation centres while taking part in workshops and discussions.

The eight routes took students to companies such as Amazon and Unruly and also stopped by venues like the British Library and WeWork, where the groups were able to meet and interact with industry experts, entrepreneurs and investors.

The hop-on hop-off tour closed with a student business pitch hosted by Plexal, a co-working space located in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and which runs innovation programmes. Taylor Semelsberger, from the University of Westminster, impressed judges with her idea of an AI-powered software which creates customised footwear, and won the contest.

Semelsberger said: “This is my second year of the London Venture Crawl and it’s even better than the previous one. There are so many inspiring speakers, and it’s a fantastic opportunity to network with people who have the same passion as you, but are from different universities. I cannot recommend it highly enough.”

The universities who took part this year were:

King’s College London, UCL, London South Bank University, Brunel University London, The University of Westminster, Loughborough University London, Birkbeck University of London, University of East London, London College of Fashion, The University of Greenwich, City, University of London, Regent’s University London.
