Under the Light Fashion Show
Learn more about the designers of tomorrow, fresh from graduating from the acclaimed Istituto Marangoni London.
The Shoreditch fashion and design school’s top graduates showcased their 2018 womenswear collections with the Under the Light fashion show at Bankside Vaults in July, in front of fashion professionals, press and industry experts.
Inspired by light as a symbol of new beginnings, the part-catwalk, part-static presentation highlighted the students’ cutting-edge designs; while Karina Ayu Ghimas was awarded the Best Inter-School Womenswear of the Year accolade, as chosen by the institute’s European schools.
Talking about the show, Roberto Riccio, Istituto Marangoni Group CEO, says: “Our group is committed to offering state-of-the-art training in the fields of fashion, art and design… Today, our fashion show reflects all these elements, featuring the uniqueness of creative London at the same time.”

Arnie Ellis, China
Having relished leading the costume production for Shakespeare’s The Winter’s Tale at college, Arnie Ellis decided to study fashion design in London. Born in Beijing and raised in the UK, the 22-year-old’s collection relates to issues of pollution in her hometown, whether using Asian or western techniques such as ink drawing and pattern making.
Kritika Singh, India
Aptly named Distorted Perceptions, Jamshedpur-born Kritika Singh’s collection is inspired by distorted mirror reflections and challenges ideas of perfection. The culmination of 4 years of study, the 23-year-old’s works are distinctive in style due to the use of colours that range from burgundies to emerald greens and greys, and eye-catching draping and pleating techniques.
Nynne Kunde, Denmark
Copenhagen-born Nynne Kunde delves into the phenomenon of power dressing with a unique collection. Featuring everything from oversized silhouettes and sharp shoulder cuts to stylised accessories, the 25-year-old’s designs explore the past and present of statement dressing. In particular, nylon, silk, leather and prints are used in the works, as Kunde explores ideas of “modern power glam”.
Viola Menchini, Italy
A former arts and architecture student, Viola Menchini mixes a love of historical garments with creative elements taken from her time studying in London. The Tuscan-born graduate examines feelings of loneliness and love with the collection titled L’amour Perduto. The 23-year-old draws inspiration from Karla Black sculptures, Juno Calypso photographs, 1950s life and modern dating apps.
