Bamboo Mobile Phone – Student of the Month

London Student of the Month

Kieron-Scott WoodhouseKieron-Scott Woodhouse, Middlesex University

We love London’s students. Talented, inspiring and creative, their ideas continually amaze us. This month it’s the turn of Middlesex University student Kieron-Scott Woodhouse who has created a stylish mobile phone made from bamboo.

Half the weight of an iPhone, the ADZero smartphone is made from bamboo and uses Google’s Android operating system. Kieron-Scott’s eye-catching designs were first spotted on online forums by an entrepreneur in China. The bamboo phone has since wowed crowds at London Design Week and it will soon be available to buy in shops throughout the UK.

We talked to Kieron-Scott about life as a student entrepreneur.

Becoming an entrepreneur is a great challenge, how has your university helped?
“Middlesex has ensured I have the skills and knowledge to accommodate an extremely dynamic industry. From the start it was clear a career in product design would be highly competitive.  However, Middlesex University lecturers encouraged us to showcase our work online in order to get noticed in the product design community. I’m just at the beginning of my career, but I wouldn’t be where I am now without an online presence.”

How does studying in London inspire you?
“London is such an inspiring place. There is so much to see and so many different types of people to learn from. You really are at advantage studying in London.”

What advice would you give to London’s design students?
“I would say take every opportunity that comes your way and run with it. You have nothing to lose and everything to learn. Also, make sure you love what you do because nothing is easy if you want to be successful. If you love what you do, you will enjoy every challenge thrown at you.”

We wish Kieron-Scott all the best with his phone, his university studies, his product design career and his new company, A.D. Busy man!
