Take your place this summer at Imperial College London’s World Challenges and Innovation summer school. This two-week experience for undergraduate students in the final two years of study promises to fire your imagination and open your mind to the potential that can be unleashed when the world’s brightest minds work together to solve a problem.
There is also an optional English Language week for students who are looking to give their academic and social English language skills a boost.
You’ll find no shortage of inspiration at Imperial, whose specialist science, engineering, medicine and business environment ranks amongst the top 10 universities in the world in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings.
If you’re looking for a memorable way to use your summer then Imperial College London have a programme line-up that will surely deliver.
You will spend the first of two weeks getting a taster into how Imperial are working to meet some of the world’s biggest challenges. Talks from experts across a range of disciplines – including global heath, computing and data science, robotics, business modelling and environmental science – will help to bring these topics to life by drawing on live case studies and introducing you to some of their latest innovations.
You’ll also tap into the spirit of entrepreneurship that ripples across the College by meeting members of Imperial’s community who have successfully launched their research discoveries into the commercial world.
This is complemented by a walking tour around the Tech City UK – the UK government backed initiative aimed at turning London’s East End into a world-leading technology city to rival California’s Silicon Valley.
In week two, prepare to have the tables turned back on you as you will be challenged to show us your ideas. You’ll work in teams to come up with your own solutions to a challenge set by Imperial, building to a group presentation on the final day.
Don’t worry, as this will still be part of the learning experience, so this is complemented by workshops focusing on the key skills you’ll need to ace this task, including problem solving, design communication, presentation skills.
You’ll also have the chance to delve further into the world of design with a visit to London’s Design Museum.
This is one of a number of inspiring museums on the doorstep of Imperial College London’s South Kensington Campus where this summer school takes place. South Kensington enjoys the convenience of central London with the green open space that comes with being home to two Royal Parks: Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens.
You’ll have the chance to experience London student life and immerse yourself in British culture through an evening social programme. There will also be free time for you to enjoy the city on your own terms.
The summer schools run from Monday 6 until Friday 17 August 2018. The optional English Language week (Monday 30 July–Friday 3 August 2018) is for students who are looking to give their academic and social English language skills a boost.
Accommodation is not included in the price but is available via the schools on-campus halls of residence, should you need it.
