Congratulations to our student of the month, Huan Wang, a graduate from Queen Mary, University of London, who was named Chinese UK Alumnus of the Year at the British Business Awards in Shanghai.
Huan Wang (also known as Lily) completed her doctorate at Queen Mary’s School of Biological and Chemical Sciences between 2003 and 2007 in the field of molecular biology. The UK’s strong reputation in life sciences encouraged Huan Wang to study in London; she also went on to complete a postdoctoral degree at the University of Liverpool.
Since her return to Tianjin, China, in 2010 Huan Wang has worked as a Manager of Discovery Biology at pharmaceutical research and development company, Centaurus BioPharma. She also set-up their first biology department, focusing on drug discovery for cancer and type II diabetes.
The Chinese UK Alumnus of the Year Award recognises Chinese nationals who have studied in the UK and who best represent the benefits of a British university education, and the positive influence of British culture. The finalists were judged on their individualism, knowledge and skills developed while studying in the UK.
Speaking of her time in London, Huan comments:
“I was a member of the Queen Mary Chinese Kickboxing club during my time in the UK, and continued to stay in touch with, and host, my friends upon my return to China.
“After studying at Queen Mary I persuaded two of my cousins to study in the UK. They have now both graduated and returned to China, where their experiences have greatly helped with finding good jobs in Tianjin.”
