Summer School in London

Trafalagr Square Summer

A Summer School is a short-term course which normally takes place during the UK summer months (June – August). Courses vary in length from 1 week to 2 months. A summer school provides an excellent opportunity to experience what it is like to be a student at a London university. You will have a choice of a number of academic courses which will allow you to gain valuable international academic experience. And there will, of course, be plenty of opportunities to get out in London and experience all the city has to offer.

When searching for a suitable Summer School, you will find different options depending on your age and qualification.

Pre-University Summer School

This type of Summer School is designed for students aged 16 – 18 who are still at school. If you are in the last two years of your high school studies, a pre-university summer school can provide an ideal opportunity to experience university life before you have to make a decision about where to apply for your degree studies.

The timetable includes academic and social activities, and students are looked after by university staff and students throughout the course.

Summer School for students & graduates

Many universities will offer a Summer School designed for students who are already studying at university level or are about to start their university studies. There are a wide number of Summer School courses available in London which integrate academic studies with opportunities to visit industry-related businesses and institutions in and around London.

Courses can often be taken for credit towards degrees at your home institution. You may also be able to choose a course which is completely unrelated to your current or future degree studies.

List of London universities offering Summer Schools

Hello, some universities require you to have finished high school or be studying for a degree already, while others are more flexible and consider your interests and experiences. Unfortunately, there is no central place that lists Summer School courses so you will need to check the university websites individually and contact those that offer a course you are interested in. Hi Eirini, you can certainly attend a Summer School after you graduate. Most Summer Schools ask that students have studied at university for a minimum of one year, but there is no upper limit. However, you may find that some Summer Schools have already started now or are closed for applications. It is always best to contact the universities you are interested in directly for more information.
